FIRST EDITIONS Reading Series—Ann Hood
FIRST EDITIONS Reading Series
Tuesday, May 28, 7:30 pm
New School of Music
25 Lowell Street, Cambridge, MA
This is Charles Coe, inviting you to very special event featuring the prolific writer Ann Hood, New York Times best seller, author of fourteen novels, four memoirs, a short story collection, a ten-book series for middle readers, and one young adult novel. Ann will be the inaugural speaker in the “FIRST EDITIONS Reading Series,” where writers with a significant body of work read from and discuss their first book.
Often when on tour writers focus on their most recent work, but at this event Ann will share the “creation story” of her first book, and how it set the stage for her later writing. Her first novel, Somewhere Off the Coast of Maine, described as "brilliant" by New York Times Book Review, was published in 1987. Set in the Vietnam War era, it examines “the choices we make when we are young, and the changes brought about by the passing of time.” Ann will also discuss her just-released novel The Stolen Child, in which “an unlikely duo ventures through France and Italy to solve the mystery of a child’s fate.” Kirkus Reviews describes this latest work as "a well-crafted, fast-paced story about how a single encounter can shape a person’s whole life."
Following her presentation Ann and I will talk about her journey as a writer, after which we'll have Q & A with the audience.
Event Co-sponsor Porter Square Books will have copies of both books available for purchase.
